Ranked UHC
m0key - 2020-10-19 07:34:15 UTCI feel like a "ranked uhc" or something would be really good for the player count. It could be hosted like reddits where someone makes an announcement in the dc and whoever wins gets cosmetics or a rank upgrade or something of that sort. There could be different gamemodes every week but I really just want to leave the idea to see what the community does!

JoeGosh - 2020-10-19 07:39:36 UTCI like this idea a lot, I think it will help bring in players as well as make the server competitive while still being fun at the same time. I think doing it weekly however is a little excessive but doing this monthly to coincide with the monthly challenges seems like a really cool idea.

PoofessorP - 2020-10-20 01:17:34 UTCHonestly I think turning PlayUHC into any form of competitiveness would be pretty bad for the server, even if it's a little, this server works very well as a casual server. In my 4-6 years of playing UHC I've experienced few of my favorite servers be either slowly shut down or turn into a pretty nasty place because over time people rattled around with the idea of "competitive uhc" and those servers slowly declined to that. It was a pretty toxic and not so enjoyable time. I always really liked PlayUHC because it was a nice community and just a casual place to hop on and "play uhc" and I can't speak for everyone of course but my friends and I really liked it because of that. You can kind of get a glimpse of what competitive playuhc would be like by hopping on the FFA Arena, my friends and I always joke around and say logging onto the ffa arena is like logging on to a different server because of how different the "communities" are, arena players just feel to be a lot more toxic and a lot of hackers. There's always either someone name calling or picking a fight with someone in chat. Of course when I see I report it but still, that's what the environment is like every time I'm on arena, I know it would be monthly so the effects probably wouldn't be as drastic as I'm describing but still
JoeGosh - 2020-10-22 07:09:04 UTCI hear what you're saying PoofessorP, I don't think this will kill the server, in fact I strongly believe it will do the opposite. The reason why this server wont turn into a toxic place
- We actively enforce the rules whether thats through moderation or alerts on the server.
- We have a stable anticheat that will ban hackers automatically, so the hacking toxicity will be minimal.
- We have an easy-to-use report system which players can just do /report ign reason which will alert us in game and also on the discord server, so this is high moderation to prevent toxic behaviour.
It wont become all competitive, that fun aspect you're talking about will still be here, you just wont need to focus on that "competitive leaderboard" if there was ever to be one!
m0key - 2020-10-22 15:01:54 UTCI see what you're saying, Poof. The idea could get too competitive after a while and change the server into a toxic place. JoeGosh already covered hacking which I didn't see as an issue to begin with because of how tight staffing is. The server already has a great balance of competitiveness in pvp points and leaderboards but everyone has fun and nobody gets toxic because of it (at least not from my experience). I think of this "ranked UHC" as being somewhat of a one-off from the main server like reddit. Also, if people aren't interested in the server, they most likely won't play it so it won't be like the FFA arena in the sense that people from different and more toxic servers play and ruin it. It will still help the player count because, if people want to earn rewards, they have motivation to play the server and test out different game modes to improve. I love the server as a casual server as well and it would suck to completely change that into something like Hypixel UHC. Ranked UHC is just another step in the positive direction for player count and fun in my opinion! The easy report system is the number 1 thing that would make this idea prevail on PlayUHC and PlayUHC only. As for Reddits which I said earlier is the closest thing we have right now, Kai and other mods are always moderating, spectating and playing to keep it in check. If people get too competitive, there is no moderation that can fix that which is our biggest worry I assume. A good solution could be making it donor only so that we can insure that good people or at least people willing to support the server can only play. I don't know if this would help, or if it would make people angry but there aren't many solutions to people wanting to be competitive. I say just try it one or 2 times, and if it goes sour, so be it but I just want to give this idea a chance on the server.
